Modificación das condicións ambientais locais nas que vive un organismo concreto. A modificación do hábitat pode producirse por causas naturais coma secas, enfermidades, lume, furacáns, corrementos de terra, aumento ou baixada das temperaturas ou das precepitacións propias dunha estacións, etc. Con todo, son as actividades humanas as que provocan seralmente estas modificacións, como por exemplo o cambio de usos da terra, as modificacións físicas dos ríos ou a subtración de auga dos ríos.
